5
Speed Gearbox.

The big modification
we had to make was to cut and move the front cross member.
We had to move it back about 3 or 4 inches. We added a brace either side to
give some
strength back to the front.

We dropped the gearbox mount down to let the engine sit at a better angle.

We had to fit
a Ford Sierra clutch because the Escort one had 20 splines on the input shaft,
were
as the Sierra one has 23.

To allow the clutch to operate properly, 5 or 6mm was cut off the end of the bearing shaft.

Where the bolts
are screwed into the gearbox we had to use M10 bolt.
This is because the Sierra uses M10 and the Escort uses 3/8 UNC.
They will fit, but under load may course a problem.
We used the
original flywheel and starter motor from the Escort but made a new splash
plate.
While the flywheel was off, we lightened it by turning about 15mm off the
back.
We modified the tub to allow the gear selector thought.

The gear selector was shortened and straightened to make a quick shift.

A new shorter propshaft was bought with the correct amount of splines on the input shaft.
